“Customers often don’t know what they need until they are shown a product or service that meets their needs—often even before they are aware of them.” Quote Steve Jobs. He may have been inspired in this attitude by Henry Ford: “If I had asked customers what they wanted, they would have asked for faster horses,” he is said to have told his market researchers.
We also repeatedly find that people want to develop in areas that are not even necessary for them. On the other hand, they neglect topics they urgently need to address in order to make their encounters more pleasant and successful.
For example, many come to us with the intention of wanting to improve their impact. However, since impact also depends on the perception of the people on whom someone wants to “make a better impression,” topics such as understanding people and perception skills are much more important to begin with. And that is just one example of many subjectively felt training and development needs that objectively have no priority.
In order to avoid misunderstandings from the outset, and to be able to take the right path, we recommend as a first step a free initial consultation with Andreas Bornhäußer, the creator and licensor of SCIL Profile.

*Note on gender-inclusive language
Gender-inclusive language is currently being debated quite heatedly in some quarters. It is not yet foreseeable how the language will change and what will prevail. In March 2021, the Council for German Orthography published the following statement: “The gender asterisk will not be officially recognized for the time being.” For this reason, and also in the interest of readability, we have refrained from marking our texts with a gender asterisk or spelling out all gender-inclusive forms at every point. We respect all people equally, regardless of gender, skin color, or sexual orientation. In some places we use only the feminine form and in others the masculine form. We hope that all readers will nevertheless feel addressed. We fundamentally reject any form of exclusion.
